About Committees
Each semester, every member is assigned to a committee of her choice. Committees give all members an opportunity to be involved in the creation and planning of activities and programming for the chapter. Kappa's committees are unique because each has an advisor, a local Kappa alum who volunteers her time to helping the chapter.
Education
The goal of the Education Committee is to teach members the heritage of Kappa as well as other useful and fun skills. Workshops in the coming months will teach everything from the history of the fraternity to how to play poker.
House
The House committee has a unique and important role since the Eta Theta Chapter is currently not housed. Not only does the House committee find spaces for Kappa meetings and events, but it also has the responsibility of planning for the future acquisition of a Kappa facility....be it apartment, condo, or house. This year the House committee will start investigating spaces in Cambridge, develop a reasonable fundraising goal, and plan future fundraising drives to meet this goal. This year should be very exciting since the acquisition of a space would be an incredible boon not only to Kappa, but to women on this campus in general.
Membership
Recruitment 2006 is just around the corner, and Eta Theta Chapter is busy planning fun events for both the chapter and its recruits! We invite all freshmen, sophomore, and junior Harvard women to come out and learn more about Kappa Kappa Gamma and Harvard's other two sororities at one of the Recruitment Information Sessions on February 5th and 6th at 4pm downstairs at Finagle-A-Bagel! For more information about sorority recruitment at Harvard, visit Harvard Panhellenic Council's Webpage! Membership in Kappa Kappa Gamma is membership for life. As our invitation to membership is not solely an invitation to join this specific chapter, but is an invitation to join the national Fraternity, it is our goal to complete our chapter with women who embody our Kappa ideals of friendship, scholarship, and leadership.
New Member
The New Member Committee is in charge of facilitating a fulfilling experience for each new member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. We work to plan events and activities during the six-week long new member period so that all the women of each new class have an opportunity to get to know one another and learn about Kappa traditions. The committee also helps to select Kore groups and mentors, so that each woman has a more intimate family within the sorority.
Philanthropy
Service is a very important part of being a Kappa. The opportunity to work together in a community effort gives each of us a true sense of sisterhood and volunteerism. Kappa's National Philanthropy is a wonderful organization called Reading is Fundamental, and as a result, many of Eta Theta's service projects focus on the promotion of literacy among children. In addition to helping in the community, we try to locate and assist our sisters that are in need. This is done through the Rose McGill Fund and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Kappa has a long history of philanthropy and by continuing this here at Harvard we create stronger bonds within our own chapter and within the greater community. For more information about Eta Theta's service projects visit our philanthropy page.
Public Relations
The Public Relations Committee serves as a link for the chapter to all area alumni and the general Harvard Community. In addition to creating and monitoring a Kappa website, the PR committee plans and edits a chapter newsletter each year, and submits articles and pictures to the national Kappa newsletter, The Key.
Scholarship
The primary role of the scholarship committee is to serve as an advisory committee to the chapter on all matters involving scholarship. It serves as a source of academic information, and is charged with promoting high academic standards and an interest in scholarship among members. It is responsible for helping each new and active member attain excellence by providing academic assistance. It is also entrusted with enforcing the Fraternity's scholastic requirements and rewarding members for academic excellence. The scholarship committee also supports our members with relaxing study breaks and treats during midterms and finals.
Social
The Social Committees is one of Eta Theta's most active committees, planning events throughout the school year to give our members the opportunity to cut loose and have a good time with their sisters and friends. Each spring, the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma and of Kappa Alpha Theta (and dates!) enjoy a moonlight cruise through Boston Harbor at our annual Kite and Key semiformal. Chapter members, their friends, and dates also enjoyed dancing and socializing at three fall socials - Kappa Kaliente, Department of Kappa Athletics, and Kappa Kissmukkah. And finally, in December, Eta Theta women donned their blue and blue gowns for the second annual Sapphire Ball, again held at the Sheraton Commander, with fabulous food and a fun DJ.
Standards
The Standards Committee, chaired by the Vice President of Standards, is responsible for maintaining harmony in the chapter and promoting Kappa spirit. This committee is responsible for the education and maintenance of Fraternity standards and policies and acting as a support network for chapter members. Standards also has the wonderful job of boosting chapter morale by organizing sisterhood events and arranging for fun surprises and rewards during chapter meetings.
